LONDON, UK: When it comes to implants, good outcomes and high predictability are crucial. In a free upcoming Straumann Group webinar on Thursday, 21 November, host Dr Eirik Salvesen will seek to answer the question of whether immediate treatment protocols can fulfil some of the primary goals of implant treatment.

In the webinar, Salvesen will discuss whether immediate treatment protocols really offer a chance to obtain successful treatment outcomes, high predictability, good long-term stability and low complication rates. Other desirable outcomes include the fewest possible number of surgical interventions, low pain and morbidity during healing, short healing periods, and short overall treatment time.

He will aim to ensure that participants can understand the difference between conventional and immediate protocols and the benefits and limitations of both approaches. He plans to increase their knowledge of case selection for immediate procedures and will discuss when to introduce immediate protocols in the practice.

A specialist in implantology and periodontics, Salvesen earned his DDS from the University of Bergen in 1999 and achieved his specialist status in periodontics in 2007 at the same university. Since 2004, he has lectured worldwide on topics such as dental implants, periodontics, and augmentation of hard and soft tissue. Salvesen works at his private practice in Norway and is a long-time fellow of the International Team for Implantology. He has more recently been involved in product development with Straumann.

The 1-hour webinar, titled “Decision making—immediacy or not?”, will be broadcast live on Thursday, 21 November, at 5 p.m. GMT. Attendance is free of charge after easy registration on the website. Participants will be able to ask questions via a chat window and have the opportunity to earn a continuing education credit by completing a multiple-choice questionnaire on the topic.
